Restylane is a brand of dermal fillers that uses hyaluronic acid to plump up the skin and smooth out wrinkles. Instead of stopping muscle contraction, these fill in spaces to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
What to expect before, during, and after Restylane fillers
All geared up for your filler appointment? Your injection specialist will make sure that the process is as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Restylane procedures often start with an initial consultation. It’s here you get to discuss any problem areas, learn about the benefits, and address any concerns or reservations. Your injection specialist will want a detailed account of your medical history and current medications. If you’re generally healthy with no known severe allergies, you’re a good candidate! To be on the safe side, pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should delay the injectable. If you have skin sores, cysts, rashes, or other skin infections, address these first before trying fillers. We will mark off the problem areas, discuss the type of Restylane, the syringes needed, then schedule the procedure.

Will I see results immediately with Restylane treatments?

What are the possible side effects of Restylane products?
After your treatment, you may experience common side effects, which can include:
- Swelling
- Redness
- Pain
- Bruising
- Headache
- Tenderness
- Lump formation
- Itching at the injection site
- Impaired hand function
These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 to 18 days in the lips.
Patients should be limited to 6 mL per treatment of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. For treatment of volume deficit in the hands, patients should be limited to 3 mL per hand per treatment.
Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years of age, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years of age. Please see below the Important Safety Considerations for the Restylane family of products.
Who should not use Restylane products?
Restylane products should not be used by people who:
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 22 years of age

- Have had previous bad allergies, particularly to microorganisms known as gram-positive bacteria
- Have serious allergies to drugs that have previously required in-hospital treatment
- Have bleeding disorders
- Have a known allergy to lidocaine (Restylane-L, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Silk, Restylane Kysse, Restylane Refyne, Restylane Defyne, Restylane Contour, and Restylane Eyelight all contain lidocaine. Restylane is the only product that does not contain lidocaine)
What causes the appearance of aging in hands? How can filler help hands look more youthful?
As part of the natural aging process, volume in the hands can deteriorate over time, making them appear aged. Veins, tendons, and bones may become more visible. Hyaluronic acid dermal filler like Restylane Lyft can be used to reverse telltale signs of aging on the back of the hands, such as wrinkles and bony-looking volume loss.
