Did you know that Botox is one of the world's most popular non-surgical treatments, with over 7 million procedures performed each year in the U.S.?
It's one of the best non-invasive procedures used to help reduce the effects of aging and restore a youthful appearance.
What is Botox?
Botox cosmetic treatments have been incredibly popular for a number of years now. Not only as a treatment for those pesky fine lines and wrinkles but a myriad of other ailments.
Botox is a cosmetic treatment used to treat stubborn frown lines, crow's feet, excessive sweating fine lines, wrinkles, and muscular conditions by relaxing certain muscles. This natural, purified protein can replenish your appearance while being proven ultra-safe.
What is Botox Made From?
Botox is made from a compound called botulinum, which is produced by Clostridium botulinum.
This compound is found in the natural environment that surrounds us such as soil, lakes, and forests. It can also be found in the intestinal tracts of mammals and fish as well as the organs of crabs and other shellfish.
Through the works of science, Clostridium botulinum is converted to botulinum which is then used for both cosmetic and medical conditions.
In short, Botox treatment is used to target the nervous system and disrupt the signaling process in the muscles. This results in the relaxation of muscles in certain areas- such as the forehead, around the mouth, etc.
Most Common Uses of Botox Injections
In today's world, Botox treatment is largely used for cosmetic purposes in order to restore a more youthful appearance. Some of the most common areas of use include:
- Frown lines between the brows
- Horizontal lines on the forehead
- Crow’s feet around the eye area
- Bunny lines around the nasal area
- Strong lines around the mouth and chin
Beyond this, Botox treatment is also used to treat a number of medical conditions. Some of these include predominant eye squints, chronic migraines, urinary incontinence, excessive sweating, post-stroke limb spasticity, and more.
What To Expect From Botox Cosmetic Procedures
During a Botox treatment procedure, the liquid is then injected directly into the neuromuscular tissue of the face to relax specific muscles.
The results of BOTOX typically begin to appear within a few days after the injection. However, the full results may not be visible for about 1 – 2 weeks, so it is important to wait an adequate amount of time before seeking a touch-up treatment.
You may feel minor pain post-treatment at the site of the Botox injections, but this should fade within a few hours.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding or have had previous allergic reactions to Botox or botulinum toxin, you should not undergo the procedure.
Before & After Botox Injections
Is Botox A Safe Cosmetic Treatment And What Are The Side Effects?
Yes, Botox is 100% safe and is FDA approved for a number of medical administrations, including cosmetic procedures.
Botox injections are generally very well tolerated and produce few side-effects. In some rare cases, those with a genetic predisposition may experience a mild response to the drug.
Some of the most common side-effects you could experience include migraines, nausea, double vision, and general malaise.
Aside from these rare side-effects, you could also experience mild pain, edema (swelling), and redness around the injection site(s).
